How poker league points work
Most poker leagues award points to each player based on how they finish in a tournament. The points add up across the season to build a leaderboard. A scoring formula turns a finishing position into a number — for example, last place might earn 1 point while the winner earns the most. This calculator runs that formula for every position so you can see the full points table before you commit to a scoring system.
Common poker league scoring systems
Home games and pub leagues tend to use one of a few patterns: simple descending points (field size minus position), flat attendance points plus a finish bonus, or a top-heavy curve that rewards deep runs. Larger leagues sometimes use square-root or logarithmic formulas so a big field is worth more than a small one. Try each preset above to compare how they spread points across the field.
Attendance vs performance scoring
Attendance scoring gives everyone points just for showing up, which keeps casual players engaged and rewards consistency over a season. Performance scoring concentrates points at the top, rewarding skill and deep finishes. Many leagues blend the two — a fixed participation amount plus finish-based points — so regulars stay in contention while strong results still matter.
Should first place get a bonus?
A winner bonus makes tournament victories feel meaningful and encourages players to push for first instead of settling for a min-cash. The trade-off is that it can let one hot streak dominate the leaderboard. A small bonus (5–10 points) usually adds excitement without breaking season-long balance. Use the Winner bonus preset to see the effect.
Example formulas
Switch the preset to Custom to write your own. A few practical examples: fieldScore + (isWinner * 10) gives field-size points with a winner bonus; round(100 * finishPercent) produces a 0–100 score; 10 + fieldScore + (isPaid * 5) adds participation and in-the-money bonuses; round(50 * pow(finishPercent, 1.5)) is a smooth top-heavy curve.
